Should NHRA Start Giving Away Tickets?

There is no escaping the wide reaching effects of the economic recession we are currently in. Industries once thought to be “recession-proof” have been hit hard forcing layoffs or wage decreases. The NHRA was not immune to this and just two weeks ago issued pink slips to a number of its employees, some of whom had worked for the NHRA for over 40 years. These layoffs might have been prevented had the NHRA chosen to give away tickets to their races rather than charging for them. Read more »

John Force Racing-What Would You Do

I had a reader comment on my last article about Ashley Force Hood and the lack of respect she garners as a world class race car driver. The reader proceeded to provide his opinion on a number of topics including the events that took place at the recently completed U.S. Nationals revolving around John Force Racing. The first point, which is well taken, was that the NHRA needs to revisit the rule of allowing teams to field more than two cars in any one professional division. I have to say that I agree to some degree with the reader about...

Historical day for NASCAR

Saturday was a historic day for NASCAR at both the Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series races.     The festivities began in Iowa at Rusty's little track in a cornfield in what was being called an "Inaugural" race for the Nationwide series.  Well, actually, Indy Car has raced there a couple of times already, but it was the first time that NASCAR darkened the tunnels of the 7/8ths mile circuit. The best part of the day was watching Brad Keselowski hold off a charging Kyle Busch, who's been more annoying than usual lately.   Busch's JGR crew brought Busch in for two...

Indy Car puts on great show at Kentucky

*SPOILER ALERT* *** *** Wow, now *that* was a race.  After a season of snoozers, Indy Car made up for it with a bona fide thriller that ended with Ryan Briscoe running wheel-to-wheel with Ed Carpenter in the closing laps and squeaking out a win by 81-thousandths of a second.   And that's no a typo.  Ed Carpenter almost won his first Indy Car race tonight, and put on a heck of a show for the fans at the track and those watching on VERSUS. AP: Briscoe edges Carpenter to win Kentucky 300 Whether or not you like Tony George, you had to root for...

F1 at peace with new Concorde Agreement signed

The dust has settled. The swords have been laid down (for now). F1 is at peace, and should be intact at least until 2012. The FIA announced that Max Mosley signed the 2009 Concorde Agreement, much to the relief of the motor reacing world. The details of the regulations have not been revealed, but spending limits remain as part of the agreement. We might have peace now, but what happens in 2012? Hopefully, with Max on the outs, there's less of a chance of another split when the current agreement expires. FIA Press Release Concorde Agreement 01/08/2009...

Ben Spies turns the Donington Double

Ben Spies looked like he was riding in the wrong class today at Donington Park as he blasted away from the field to win both races in World Superbike action. The Texan took the pole and Saturday, and led the entire duration of both races on Sunday to take two victories. In Race #1 Spies took the holeshot and was followed by Biaggi who dogged him for the entire race. This was good news for Spies who is trying to catch Haga in the points standings. In the first race, Spies was setting a blistering...
