ALMS up close in Atlanta
June 17, 2003
My favorite part of attending a race is when I get pit/paddock access. No one does this better than the NHRA and NASCAR. No one is worse than F1. I think ALMS is making a very smart move in opening themselves up to the fans as much as possible…

Biela refocused
June 17, 2003
I think everyone watching the opening hours of the 24 Hours of LeMans truly felt for Frank Biela as his car ran out of gas far from pit lane. Frank is refocusing on continuing the ALMS season as points leader…

How does this happen?
June 17, 2003
How do you go from winning the championship for the past two years in a row….to barely finishing races? Sure they have much better competition in the series this year, but not THAT much better. This is embarassing. Chevy needs to get their act together ASAP! See the link below (FIFTH IS A FIRST FOR CHEVY)…

Streaming drag racing
June 17, 2003
Having worked for a streaming media company in the past, I think this is the coolest thing going. The Goodguys-VRA West Coast Hot Rod Happenin’ nastolgia drag race will be webcast live on the internet using Apple Quicktime technology. As more and more home users get broadband (cable modems, dsl connections) at home this type of thing will occur more often. Just look at NASCAR.com’s track pass. Companies that specialized in this type of coverage (such as the now defunct Quokka Sports) were way before their time….but the time WILL come. And I, for one, can’t wait!
Also mentioned in this article is a link to “We Did It For Love” nastolgia drag racing/boating organization. Pretty neat.
K&N commercial garners a Telly
June 17, 2003
The now redundantly played K&N Filters commercial featuring the K&N drag racing teams (Ibarra, Johnson, Pedregon) has won a Telly award. The commercial did get my attention when the opera music was blasting over the loud speakers between runs at Englishtown this year.
Richards see other motives
June 16, 2003
David Richards thinks that Bernie Ecclestone’s decision to buy a ’significant stake’ in Minardi (Bernardi) has motives other than charity, or wanting to shut Paul Stoddart up. I couldnt’ agree more. There are few better capitalists than Bernie. He wouldn’t throw his money around for the heck of it.
Is Pollock serious!?
June 16, 2003
Jacques Villeneuve’s manager Craig Pollock is quoted as having said “I think it would be the greatest shame for Formula One to lose a personality such as Jacques.” Yeah, God knows it is always a shame to lose a whiny, disgruntled has-been who can’t get it done. What a shame….
Dale Jr. wants new road rules
June 16, 2003
“Dale Earnhardt Jr. is lobbying NASCAR to adopt the old Formula One qualifying rules when the Winston Cup teams go to road courses.” reports Lee Spencer of the SportingNews. Won’t that be a hoot! F1 adopted NASCAR qualifying, I guess NASCAR should return the favor! However, I think it makes sense for a bunch of guys who are not used to turning right. Give them a few laps to feel it out a bit.

Burton loses Citgo
June 16, 2003
Ok…so maybe I was wrong….maybe there are ad spending issues in NASCAR. Citgo notified Roush Racing today that they will no longer sponsor the 99 car of Jeff Burton after this season.

Not a real shocher. Has Skinner ever delivered anywhere but Trucks?
