To be or not to be…

July 14, 2003

…that is the question at hand, at least for the McLaren MP4/18. Whether it is far better to suffer the slings and arrows of unreliability this year, or postpone until September or even ‘04 the new car launch? You can bet your bruised Bard if there are no podiums at Silverstone this weekend the new car will be on the track sooner rather than later.

Max on the mark again?

July 14, 2003

It would appear that Max Mosely’s prediction about the GPWC not being committed to racing will be tested shortly. With European car sales generally down, will the car makers financially commit to a new investment in a new racing series? Very unlikely. Looks like Bernie will win again!

Player’s no longer?

July 14, 2003

Player’s, a major tobacco sponsor of Canadien motorsports in general and more specifically of Paul Tracy’s Forsythe Player’s race team is being forced out of sports sponsorship in October ‘03. It raises the potential of Paul Tracy winning this years CART title without a team sponsor on the car! Even when he wins it seems poor Paul still looses!

Jeff & Gentlemen’s Agreement, Part II

July 14, 2003

Hey, Jeff Gordon, why no outcry over someone racing AND passing back to the caution flag yesterday? Maybe because it was your very own team driver, Jimmie Johnson? Robbie sure didn’t hesitate to point out the lack of crying from Jeff.

“I wonder if Jeff Gordon is going to jump and down and scream about his driver passing under the yellow, think about it.”

It is recalled that Jeff Gordon had much to say about a pass Robby Gordon made on teammate Kevin Harvick during the June 22nd event at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma. Robby Gordon makes a good point about the Hendrick teammates as fate turns the table on Jeff Gordon and his earlier point about the gentlemen’s agreement.

Night racing - GOOD

July 14, 2003

ESPN’s Bill Stephens and many others have been singing the praises of night racing since Madison, Ill., two weeks ago. I couldn’t agree more. How the hell wants to sit in intense sun and heat for 6 hours getting burned and so blindingly drunk you can’t even remember the final round?…

Stewart - Ganassi rumors

July 14, 2003

Lee Spencer of The Sporting News reports that Chip Ganassi has denied recent rumors that Tony Stewart has signed with Ganassi for next season. However, it would make a lot of sense since Ganassi has proven he can give Stewart what he really wants, a win in the Indy 500. Ganassi won the Indy 500 in 2000 with Juan Pablo Montoya at the wheel.
