M. Schumacher to test Alfa

July 8, 2003

Michael Schumacher will be testing a touring car during this Ferrari test in Tuscany this week. Perhaps a hint to where he is looking to spend retirement?

Dennis vs Stoddart: Round 2

July 7, 2003

In the latest chapter of the Paul Stoddard saga, the Minardi boss has threatened to compete in the British Grand Prix without driving aids (traction control, shifting assistance, etc). This will of course lower his costs, but also allow him to lodge a complaint that the other teams are operating illegally as the only thing that has kept driver aids on the cars is a gentleman’s agreement (yes, another one NASCAR fans!)…

Politics comes to NASCAR

July 7, 2003

Potential presidential candidates on the sides of NASCAR vehicles. Now we can really hate the sponsors AND the drivers.

Tide turning?

July 7, 2003

I’m glad I am not the only one who feels that a tide has definitely turned in favor of a team OTHER than Ferrari…

Bryan Herta wins in Kansas

July 6, 2003

Bryan Herta brought home a win for Andretti Green Racing via a fuel gamble that paid off in victory. Unfortunately Felipe Giaffone was injured and most likely has a broken leg due to a crash while trying to pass Dan Wheldon in the second turn of the 56th lap….

Ralf does it from pole.

July 6, 2003

Ralf may have won the race from pole, but my basic question about him remains unanswered. Can he win from any other position besides pole? Or, can he pass a competitive driver to gain the lead? A win is a win and he drove beutifully to maintain and extend his lead, but can he/will he make a tough pass to win? Time will tell.

Blame the Marshall’s

July 6, 2003

When your car is not up to snuff and your “drivers” are not racing, what else is a Team Principal to do but blame the marshall’s for not waving the blue flag. Personally I think the team is waving the white flag!

Hornish to NASCAR?

July 6, 2003

I was just watching AutoWeek on Speed where they were discussing the rumored Chevy/Cosworth relationship. The topic of Sam Hornish’s future came up. His contract with Panther (who he won the IRL championship with the past two years) expires at the end of this season. I see no reason why Sam would stay with Panther should they continue to use Chevy power, and should Chevy continue to be an embarrassment….

Nitro Fish a contender

July 6, 2003

NHRA.com profiled the Nitro Fish Pro Stock team this weekend. Driver Scott Geoffrion has a mindset and perspective on the sport that is, I guess you would call it “old school.” It is always amazing (and refreshing to me) to see that people who race for the racing and not for the money still exist. Also, RacingOne has an interview with Geoffriam

Ralf leads Williams 1-2 finish in France

July 6, 2003

Is it too early to tell if the torch has been passed? Ralf Schumacher and Juan Pablo Montoya might think so, but I don’t. Williams dominated the French Grand Prix today with a superb 1-2 finish. Defending World Champion Michael Schumacher came in third.

As a result of the French Grand Prix Williams BMW is now within three points of Ferrari in the Constructors’ Championship and Ralf Schumacher is within three points of McLaren’s Kimi Raikkonen for second place in the Drivers’ Championship.
