Minardi set the pace????

July 4, 2003

When I read this headline I thought I had entered another dimension. If you ever watch the Daily Show with John Stewart on Comedy Central…say it with me now….WHAAAA????

BBC: Minardi set the pace

BARs unbarred

The BAR cars have been released to race by French authorities after being impounded for an alleged unpaid debt.

Usual suspects lead way at Daytona

July 3, 2003

Nascar’s restrictor plate 1-2 punch of Childress and DEI were on top of the qualifying heap when the dust settled in Daytona after qualifying. Childress took pole with Steve Park and outside pole with Kevin Harvick. Jeff Gordon of course faired well with 3rd. Big oval pro Sterling Marlin was finally back on form taking the 4th place spot. 5th and 6th were DEI teammates Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Michael Waltrip.

Surprise top ten qualifiers were Ken Schrader (7th), Elliott Sadler (9th), and Jeremy Mayfield (10th)…

My man Juan

July 3, 2003

Juan Montoya has expressed what I think is the essence of being a racer as opposed to being a driver. Guys like Ralf will cruise the circuit and satisfy themselves with a finish as opposed to winning. This could be construed as a direct insult by certain “drivers”, not to mention Michael. This could be a very interesting weekend in France!

Juan admits he has a do-or-die attitude

BAR cars seized in France

July 3, 2003

We know Jacque is not keen to race this weekend, could he secretly be behind the seizure of BAR cars to avoid the race? Would not surprise me!

Tracy on provisional pole

July 3, 2003

Paul Tracy rocketed to the provisional pole in Cleveland…

Yahoo!: Tracy wins provisional pole

Of course the run was not without Paul bashing…

“I am very, very, disappointed with Paul,” said Jourdain, currently third in the points standings. “Every lap he backed out (slowed down) before the last chicane when I was coming. When he finished his run, I had one timed lap left, and he parked it in the first chicane. It just kills me that nothing is being done about this.”

When are they going to learn that CART actually ENCOURAGES Paul to mouth off and cause a scene one way or another? He is the last peice of excitement the series has left!

McDonald’s to sponsor Bourdais for three races

July 2, 2003

McDonald’s will sponsor the Newman/Haas car of rookie driver Sebastien Bourdais for three races this season. CART CEO Chris Pook had this to say about the new relationship…

“I think it’s very important,” said Chris Pook, CART’s president and chief executive officer. “For us, it’s a ringing endorsement for CART.”

Well Chris, it is hardly “ringing.” A whole year sponsorship would be a “ringing” endorsement. A three race deal sounds to me like Paul Newman is making an appearance at the annual franchisee’s convention this year in exchange for a little cash to keep racing.

Michael & Jean

July 2, 2003

Schumacher is constantly surprising of late with his generosity of spirit and effective analysis of situations. Read what Mikey has to say about Jean Todt and compare it to the sniveling whining of our favorite whipping boy Jacque in the previous story
