The IRL let chassis and engine manufacturers know that they should build 2004 equipment with road courses in mind. There are none lined up yet, but they want to be prepared for the opportunity to run on the road.

27 year-old former USAC Midget Champion and current Craftsman Truck Series competitor Jason Leffler will take the wheel of the NetZero HiSpeed Pontiac for the Brickyard 400. No driver beyond that race has been announced. Apparently John Andretti’s efforts were not enough to keep him in the car for more than one race (from InsiderRacingNews.com news and rumors).

Cheever Racing gets new Chevy power

Cheever racing will use the Chevy Gen IV engine in the next race at Gateway on August 10. The Gen IV nearly powered Sam Hornish to a victory this past weekend in Michigan. Sam ended up second, but will Cheever’s driver Buddy Rice be able to do something similar at Gateway?
