Scoring points instead of winning
July 21, 2003
The way championship points are currently scored needs to be changed. When a top driver like Jeff Gordon says he doesn’t need to win any more races this year, just score top fives to win the Cup, you know it’s time for a change. While consistancy should be rewarded it’s time to place a higher value on winning. Thats why we fans watch!

He thanked his team mate Jenson Button for his vocal support and desire to have the 1997 World Champ as his team mate again next year. Button’s support comes in the face of rumor and speculation about where, if anywhere, Villeneuve will be able to secure a ride for next year.
I’m sorry, but words of kindness from Jacques really shock me. I just so used to him panning anyone and everything. I guess desperation does strange things to people.
Gittin’ Newman
July 21, 2003
Found this great piece on Ryan Newman versus the average stock car racer. I think it is great to see a Mechanical Engineer with a degree from Purdue racing against all of these slightly refined corporate red necks. It makes tons of sense too when you consider who he works for. Roger Penske was an engineer himself who was more interested in weighing pistons and studying horsepower curves than actually being behind the wheel. Many (outside of NASCAR) have compared Newman to the late great Mark Donohue (Book, Bio)who drove Trans Am and Indy cars for Penske in the60’s and 70’s…
