Rough week for Snake Racing

August 12, 2003

Team owner Don “The Snake” Prudhomme fired his driver Ron Capps’ crew chief Ed McCulloch last week. Todd Okuhara will serve as the interim crew chief on Capps’ ride while he is “evaluated.” No pressure Todd! The Snake scares me and I’m not even involved…

Pruett surprises

August 12, 2003

As the NASCAR road course tradition goes, several teams hire road course specialists so that their “good ole boy” circle drivers don’t have to deal with them…and usually one of the series regulars wins anyways. That was the case again last weekend at Watkins Glen with Robby Gordon turning in a “relatively” uncontroversial victory (except for spinning out Boris Said). However, Scott Pruett came very close to pulling of a “hired gun” victory in the upstate NY countryside….

Rice struggles, even with GenIV mill..

August 11, 2003

Buddy Rice could not get much done in the way of racing Sunday, even with the new Chevy GenIV power plant. Whats up with that Eddie, forgot how to tune a chasis? You should have kept Tomas Scheckter and released yourself!

Alesi backing Schumi…

August 11, 2003

Jean Alesi has predicted that Michael’s savy and experience will carry him to his sixth world championship title over his less experienced rivals. I would tend to agree with Jean except it’s all about the rubber and the weather.

Michelin a huge advantage?

Safety first, profits second?

August 11, 2003

When Jeff Gordon and Ryan Newman both criticize the lack of response of the local safety crews its time for the series to go pro. Spend a little of the loot the series generates to hire traveling safety crews instead of relying on the local yokels.

Save Mid-Ohio!

August 11, 2003

As a fan of road course racing you have to love places like Mid-Ohio, Laguna Seca, and Road America in Wisconsin. Fans have circulated petitions to save the Mid-Ohio race next year.

As admirable as the fans sentiments are, I think CART will be busy trying to save the series besides the venue at Mid-Ohio!

Double trouble for Dixon…

August 11, 2003

Not only did his not finishing the race drop him from first to fourth in the standings, Scott Dixon took a double hit on Sunday. Injured Unser crewman Anton Julian is a fellow Kiwi and good friend. Julian’s brother is a crewman in Dixon’s team. And here I thought IRL was being over run by South Americans.
You gotta watch out for those down under guys, they can be very sneaky!
