Fisher hospitalized, Menard pulls out again
August 24, 2003
The IRL field may be reduced to a season low 19 cars if Sarah Fisher is not cleared to race after a heavy practice crash which sent her to the hospital. Sarah was said to be awake and alert and was transported to the hospital for evaluation of back pain.
Additionally, Team Menard has elected to pull out of a second consecutive event due to substitute driver Jaques Lazier wrecking only 6 laps into his first practice run. Jaques was unhurt and the team had a back-up car, but given Jacques’ recent record at the track and the teams numerous recent crashes they have decided to go back to the shop and regroup for the next round of the series at Chicagoland in two weeks time.
Busch hits back at Bristol
August 24, 2003
After a long week of controversy surrounding Kurt Busch getting his lights punched out last week at the end of the Michigan race, Kurt struck back on the track last night at Bristol. “Free Jimmy” t-shirts and a chorus of boos greeted Kurt Busch at Bristol, which no doubt made Jimmy Spencer smile. However, I’m sure he was less than pleased when Kurt was able to work through the distractions and come up with a win. Of course the win was not without controversy of its own.
Kurt spun out Sterling Marlin to take second place (killing me in the NASCAR fantasy points). NASCAR officials warned Kurt after the move and his crew reminded him that he was on probation…

Hometown boy Tagliani does well…
August 23, 2003
…enough to qualify on pole for tomorrows IndyCar Molson Montreal race. Alex Tagliani managed a time that was .006 seconds quicker than Oriel Servia.
Paul Gentillozi and Alex were both near tears at the post qualifying interview.
It’s refreshing to see an owner with fire in his belly so excited for his team and driver. You can bet your last dime Alex will drive through walls for Paul, anytime, anywhere!

Williams duo all smiles after qualifying
August 23, 2003
Even tho starting from 2nd and 4th both Williams drivers should be pleased. Why? Because both cars are substantially quicker down the main straight where the only passing opportunity exists. Even if the Renault’s vaunted traction control allows Alonso to hold P1 into the first turn, I suspect he will be passed by Ralf by lap 5. Assuming of course Ralf doesn’t take Alonso and himself out of the race at turn 1, lap 1! Team orders? We’ll have to wait and see if Ralf allows Juan by if the opportunity presents itself.
