Vasser loses engineer, ponders future

August 20, 2003

I’ve been a fan of Jimmy Vasser since he had such lucrative sponsorship as “Otter Pops” on his car. Seeing him grow into a race winner and a champion has been great. This is why it pains me to see him without a sponsor on his car for the past few years, and pondering whether or not he will be in CART next year.

I think it is probably time for Jimmy to move on and get into stock cars or maybe endurance/sports car racing. At this point in his career I think he has proven all he needs to in CART, and who knows if CART will be there for him next season. I think he would be an awesome Trans-Am driver. I wonder what his relationship with Rocketsports team owner Paul Gentilozzi is like…

Ralf cleared by FIA…..

August 20, 2003

..of any responsibilty for the “racing incident” at the first turn of the German Grand Prix. That is the effect, anyway, even tho the FIA changed the penalty from the 10 spot drop in qualifying to a $50,000.00 fine. If the FIA believed Ralf bore some responsibility for the wreck why not dock him and the team points in lieu of the fine? The fine is small comfort to McLaren and Ferrari, who in effect lost championship points by Ralf booting them out of the race.

Gentilozzi rockets to CART success

August 20, 2003

Paul Gentilozzi has always been an interesting figure in my mind. It is fairly rare that a driver/owner has the amount of success that he has had in Trans Am. Of course, being the skeptic that I am, I though that his move into CART was too big a step for the short time that he had to put the team together. Paul is proving me wrong…
