Canadian sweep….

August 18, 2003

What a perfect way for Team Player’s to exit racing sponsorship and to give the flying finger to the Canadian government that will drive them from said sponsorship. How? By winning the Molson Indy Montreal event this weekend, which would give the Team Players crew a three fer in the Canadian races this year.

With Patrick Carpentier a native of Montreal and Paul Tracy’s innate aggressive driving style we may may see some driving mayhem between the teammates.

Mileage, and more mileage…

August 18, 2003

I thought the purpose of racing was to see who had the fastest car and best driver. Why should these races be dictated by fuel efficiency? I don’t know if Kurt’s loss is attributable to poor pit strategy, poor mileage, or just plain team stupidity, but why should any of that matter? Give ‘em the bigger tanks and let ‘em race!! And shit can the restrictor plates while you’re at it and give ‘em smaller displacement engines if you want to slow them down.

Childress confirms talks with IRL teams

August 17, 2003

NASCAR team owner Richard Childress confirmed this weekend that he has been in talks with various IRL teams about partnering up to share technology and sponsorship. Could this be an early view of what the future of the American oval racing “Super Team” will look like? Years ago each NASCAR team ran one car, then came the multi-car team revolution and the associated benefits of sharing data among those teams. Now most teams have at least two cars. Is this the start of a similar trend…

Dangerous days in the IRL

August 17, 2003

The IRL is looking more and more like it will be the ultimate victor in the open wheel war with CART. However, if IRL is going to take its place of prominence in American auto racing it needs to improve its safety record. Two more drivers were injured this weekend at Kentucky Speedway. IRL Pro Series driver Tom Wood received fractures to his middle back, right knee, right foot and both ankles. He will soon undergo surgery to stabilize his wounds. Additionally, in Saturday IRL practice Team Menard driver Vitor Meira crashed hard and broke his right wrist and Team Menard withdrew from the event…
