Why the IRL will run road courses
September 3, 2003
The ensuing article has opened my eyes to some interesting business situations that may force the IRL into considering and accepting road racing, as soon as next year. The obvious is a merger between the IRL and the entity known as CART, regardless of the supposed buyout pending.

Felipe Giaffone was back in his Mo Nunn IRL car for testing at Chicagoland Speedway, ahead of the Delphi Indy 300 there on September 7.

Jeremy who??
September 3, 2003
Yeah, whatever happened to Jeremy Mayfield? After leaving Penske in 2001 amidst loud complaints, he really has not produced a thing for Evernham Motorsports, has he?

Michelin accepts the challenge…
September 3, 2003
…of building new tires within the latest FIA interpretation of the rules. And when they beat Ferrari again at Monza, what complaint will Ross “The Rat” Brawn come up with next? Illegal engine parts? Illegal fuel? Amphetamines ingested by the crews for faster pit stops?
Just when I thought the Ferrari team were beginning to exhibit some class in their points comeback in mid-season, they crack under the pressure.

Vickers to Cup, Busch to Busch
September 2, 2003
Brian Vickers will move up from Hendrick Motorsports’ Busch series team to take over the #25 Nextel Cup car currently driven by Joe Nemechek. This seems like a perfectly logical progression to me. Joe hasn’t done a whole lot with the ride since he took over for Jerry Nadeau last year. Come to think of it…has anyone ever done anything much with the #25? Perhaps Vickers is the shot in the arm that “Papa Joe’s” #25 team needs. Additionally, this move opens up a full time Hendrick Busch ride for 18 year old Kyle Busch, younger brother of (the lately infamous) Kurt Busch. If you think Kurt knows how to make things happen on a race track, keep your eyes on young Kyle…

Jeff Burton re-signs with Roush
September 2, 2003
Jack Roush and Jeff Burton are hopeful that Jeff can add to his 17 career Winston Cup victories, all of which came while driving for Roush. Roush Racing today announced that Jeff Burton has re-signed with the team for 2004 “and beyond.” It says a lot to me about Roush’s respect for Burton’s talent since Burton’s car currently has no sponsor for next year. Well, now that the legal work is out of the way it’s time to get to sellin’…

Sam Hornish interview
September 2, 2003
I just love how humble this guy is. How can you not love Sam Hornish?…
I remember toward the beginning of my go-karting career, I remember having a dream that I had a meeting with Roger and Rick Mears and Danny Sullivan and they wanted me to come drive with them. I thought that — like when I woke up in the morning — I thought there’s no way that will ever happen. Kind of cool. Kind of a cool thing to be involved with that.

More tire issues
September 1, 2003
Based on the technical description of the FIA regulation, it doesn’t appear that Michelin has done any cheating with respect to front tire width. The regulation cited in the ensuing article clearly and specifically refers to NEW tires.
