I don’t know if my esteemed co-editor saw the same race as I did, but the Mile High Denver CART race had plenty of action. Including lots of passing. Just ask anyone who tracked Mario Dominguez around the 1.647 mile Pepsi Centre street circuit. And as for your miserable opinions, Mr. Paige, hope you stayed home and watched the Walton’s reruns you must favor!

Bad month for Jeff

Jeff Gordon can’t wait for August to end, and hopefully, his streak of bad finishes.
His latest case of bad luck came from Casey Mears, who turned into Gordon and caused a six car wreck. After the mandatory post race whine by Jeff, Chip Ganassi came up with a memorable quote:

“Please tell me his legacy to the sport in the latter years of his career is not whining about crashing out of 21st place,” Ganassi said.

…and still counting? That is the question that may be at hand for the Newman-Haas racing stable. Sundays Denver race marked the 350th start for the duo, and there are rumors that Carl Haas is eyeing an IRL team in order to race at Indy. According to PLN, it will be without Newman as he is totally dedicated to CART and it’s future, wherever it may go.

Junqueira wins Denver sleeper

Bruno Junqueira beat Newman/Haas teammate Sebastien Bourdais to win his second Grand Prix of Denver. The only significant passing in the race occured in the pits. Points leader Paul Tracy came in fourth and now appears to be in a points maintenance strategy for the remainder of the season. However, with Bruno winning races Paul may need to get a bit more aggressive…
