(from CART.com) It was action from start-to-finish in final qualifying for the Grand Prix Americas Presented by Sportsbook.com. Adrian Fernandez took pole, but it was Bruno Junqueira who stole the headlines. Chasing another championship point, the Brazilian ended up in the Turn 4 wall with damage to the front of his car. He will still start from the outside of the front row. Championship leader Paul Tracy will start from fifth place….

Raikkonen on USGP Pole

Pole favorites Juan Montoya and Michael Schumacher were only able to muster 4th and 7th spots repectively on the grid for tomorrow’s US Grand Prix. Kimi Raikkonen and the McLaren team took the pole with provisional pole sitter Jarno Trulli qualifying 12th. The surprise of the day was Toyota driver Olivier Panis taking 3rd starting spot, the best of his career in dry conditions, and the best starting spot in the Toyota teams short history…

DEI Cars Qualifying Times Disallowed

Jim Hunter, vice president of corporate communications for NASCAR:

“The No. 8 car’s time has been disallowed. He failed post-qualifying inspection. The quarterpanels were too low. He will receive a provisional starting spot and will start 38th. The No. 1 car also failed post-qualifying inspection for the same reason. He will start 43rd.”
