Ralf a “go” for Indy
September 17, 2003
According to Ralf Schumacher, he is, or will be, ready to go for the U.S. Grand Prix on September 28. Of course, Ralf also said he was ready to go at Monza. We’ll just have to wait and see. After all this is the perfect excuse to keep Ralf sidelined and for Frank Williams to see how well Marc Gene can do.

Tom Kendall on CART
September 16, 2003
Tom Kendall assesses the 2003 CART season to date. TK has been, I think, an exceptional commentator on the racing, the teams, and the future of the series. He brings a drivers insight with humor and style, and can only continue to get better and better. Keep up the good work, TK.

Kenseth and football
September 16, 2003
An analogy that Matt Kenseth uses when asked if he is racing to protect his points lead or racing to win, is football. When football teams go into prevent defenses to protect leads, often the only thing they are preventing is victory. Matt and his Roush Racing #17 DeWalt team are definitly aggressive in their approach to chase the win as opposed to protecting points. No doubt they are paritially concerned with their image of winning the championship with only a single victory this year.

If you can’t pass ‘em…
September 16, 2003
…crash ‘em. The ever evolving aero packages have created such parity amongst race teams, the only way to pass competitive cars is via the chrome horn. Until Nascar legislates more flexibility into the race packages allowed under the rules, the top teams and drivers will have little choice when it comes to getting around the competition. No one will be able to seperate “racing deal” incidents from deliberate bumps to pass, and the post wreck trash talk, anger and disputes are probably what the WWF on wheels are truly looking for.

Gordon luckless streak continues
September 16, 2003
I have to admit, even I am shocked at the amazing luckless streak Jeff Gordon is on. I usually am elated when Jeff has problems and winds up at the end of the field. He has had some great runs in the process of collecting his four Winston Cup crowns. I guess the law of averages even applies to racing greats.

Great run from Gene, and a chance to do it again
September 16, 2003
I was hoping someone would give Marc Gene credit for his great 5th place result at Monza this weekend. Let’s remember that the last time Marc drove F1 races regularly (with Minardi) he only scored one point in two seasons. Given the benefit of Ralf Schumacher’s ride at Williams he quadrupled that in one event. At least ESPN is throwing him some props…

Pivotal race at Indy
September 16, 2003
As if last weekend wasn’t pivotal enough…the math tells us that Michael Schumacher could clinch his record breaking sixth Formula One title at the next race in Indianapolis.
My prediction: though Damon Hill has given Juan a vote of confidence, I think Schumacher will pull it off. No one thrives under pressure like Michael Schumacher.
The x-factor of Juan Pablo Montoya has been down graded since the tire debacle. Unfortunately, Michael will need to win a 7th championship to be the uncontested greatest champion of all time in the hearts and minds of some F1 fans as this season will no doubt go down in history shrouded in controversy. What a shame…
