stewart_car_2003.jpgConcord, NC - October 11, 2003 - Defending Winston Cup champion Tony Stewart chased down fellow Hoosier Ryan Newman to take the UAW-GM 500 tonight at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.

Pole-sitter Ryan Newman held the lead until Bill Elliott and then Jimmie Johnson wrested the lead from him. Newman dropped back to a position between ten and fifteen seconds back of the leader for much of the early stages of the race.

Gary Scelzi and Greg Anderson also led the way after the second of four qualifying sessions in their respective categories at the $1.9 million race, the 20th of 23 events in the $50 million NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.

Concord, NC - Rain prevented NASCAR from running the schedule Busch Grand National “Little Trees 300″ race at Lowe’s Motor Speedway on Friday evening. The race ran only nine laps under a “green/yellow” condition before it became obvious that the track could not be kept dry enough for racing. Consequently, the BGN race will run on Saturday morning, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
