Newman’s Wins Called Into Question

October 6, 2003

Several of NASCAR’s most outspoken drivers are calling Ryan Newman’s fuel milage wins into question.

Tony Stewart: “I hate to say anything, but some guys would rather win than just finish fourth,” he said. “We drove away from Ryan Newman all day.”

Kevin Harvick: “I’m just (angry) that a 15th-place car wins the race and can go 15 laps farther on fuel than the rest of us,” he said. “If he can do that with his foot, then he’s a magician, and I’ll kiss his (rear) if he’s doing it with his foot.”

Bill Elliot was presumably so angry that didn’t stick around to talk to the press after the race.
