Awesome Bill Still Contemplating Retirement

November 5, 2003

NASCAR legend Bill Elliot is still not sure whether or not he will race full time next season or start to step away from the sport that has made him a racing icon. In my opinion Elliot owes racing nothing. He has won at the highest level many times and should feel good about stepping away from the sport any time he wishes.

However, he is still competitive, which is more than we can say for “Good Ole DW” before he retired…and it appears as though Rusty Wallace is following DW’s fate. It was just sad for me to see DW and Richard Petty our there week in and week out turning out awful results in the twilight years of their careers

I think Bill should hang it up, or at least start to phase himself out while he is still a factor and still winning races…

Americans In F1

November 5, 2003

Matt Davis of AutoWeek culls some very interesting points from his visit to the second annual Red Bull Driver Search finals. Why are Americans currently unsuited for F1? I agree with everything Matt says, but he misses the major point. Why would any American leave here when you have NASCAR, a sport that is now just about on par with any other major league sport, to go race in Europe. If you want to be a famous IN America by being a race car driver, you need to be bumping fenders with Jeff Gordon, not letting Michael Schumacher (whoever that is!) lap you. Why go looking for a pot of gold in a foreign land when it is right here is good ole Charlotte, North Carolina???
