Webber on the way to Williams?

November 20, 2003

Mark Webber admits to talks between Team Jaguar and BMW-Williams over his future services. Having stubbed their toe over Juan Pablo’s services, you can be sure that Williams will not limp through ‘04 with the uncertainty of Juan’s replacement hanging over the team. If they can get Webber for ‘05, how tough of a sell is it to move him up for ‘04?

As our esteemed Editor-in-Chief pointed out in an earlier posting, if the Nascar points system were similar to the IRL, Cart, F1, or any other major professional racing program, the championship outcome would be totally different.

Newman Haas Tests IRL Car

November 19, 2003

No way out for Montoya in ‘04

November 19, 2003

At least according to the CURRENT party line espoused by BMW-Williams. How can they contend for the manufacturer’s crown (always a Frank Williams priority) without giving full support to Montoya, to allow him to score maximum points? And, given full team support, Juan will contend, and possibly win, the driver’s championship; and then go off to McLaren? All of this seems very unlikely, as Williams has prospered on two competitive drivers fighting for the title. My take is that Juan will be gone prior to the first race of ‘04, and he may be left without a seat unless McLaren preempts Coulthard’s contract in favor of Juan.

Schumacher Injured Playing Soccer

November 17, 2003

Michael Schumacher has been ordered to rest after injuring his knee playing soccer. He’ll miss a practice session with Manchester United. If those sports fans who say race car drivers are not athletes also agree that soccer is one of the most physically demanding sports in existence…it would seem that Michael negates the former argument…
