And the points debate begins…

November 17, 2003

…in earnest. Can we at least let Jack, Mat and Mark enjoy the awards banquet and savor their victory for a few days before we start sniping at the system they won by?

The attached article highlights some of the subtleties we may witness next year.

Snake Racing Won’t Expand In 04

November 17, 2003

Most people were expecting a different announcement from Don Prudhomme’s Snake Racing. It was no secret that the team had been working with Melanie Troxel to secure primary sponsorship for a second top fuel team to run with the Snake’s 2002-03 top fuel champion dragster piloted by Larry Dixon. Apparently plans have fallen through. Don takes a political stance saying that it wasn’t in his teams best interests to start a 4th team, but I would guess that the sponsorship just didn’t come together…

Ferrari Test Drive For Zanardi?

November 17, 2003

Alex Zanardi’s old buddy Rubens Barrichello trying to get Ferrari to let Alex run a test in a specially modified F1 car. I’m not sure why since the F1 community would never let him compete in the championship (he’d have some kind of “advantage” that the other teams would complain about)…but it would be pretty cool. However I have to wonder how long this will go on for. What’s next? Alex testing a specially modified version of the space shuttle? We don’t need him to test anything anymore…we KNOW he can still race, but he’s mentioned a few times that he wants to move beyond racing…

Priestley Definitely Done With Racing

November 17, 2003

Jason Priestley has finally given a definite answer about the future of his driving career following his horrific accident in Kansas in 2002…he’s out…

“It wasn’t my accident that really made me give it up,” Priestley said.

“[Racer] Tony Renna was a really close friend of mine, and he just passed away a couple of weeks ago [in a crash at the Indianapolis Speedway].

“You know, I’ve buried two of my friends in four years [Renna and Greg Moore], and I don’t want to join that club.”

November 16, 2003

Homestead, FL - Bobby Labonte never lost touch with the leaders at Sunday’s Ford 400. His faith in the team and his car kept him from dropping further behind dominating Bill Elliott, something which led eventually to a victory in the final Winston Cup race in a 33-year run.

F1 Teams Continue To Tease Hopefuls

November 15, 2003

F1 teams that don’t have their driver lineups secured for 2004, namely Minardi and Jaguar, are continuing to toy with the dreams of young drivers. Jag will do a 3-day test for young Austrian driver Christian Klien and America’s Townsend Bell. Of course I’m amped to see an American getting an F1 test, but Alex Wurz is waiting in the wings…and he’s earned this ride.

Minardi is up to its old tricks looking to F1’s developing markets and trying to get a driver that appeals to that market and hopefully pulling sponsorship along with them. Minardi boss tried this before with Malaysian Alex Yoong…and we all know how that turned out. Now Paul is looking to tap Algerian Formula Three driver Nassim Sidi Said…good luck Paul!
