December 3, 2003
Remarks by the President to 2003 NASCAR Drivers
The South Lawn
THE PRESIDENT: Good to see you all. Welcome. Please be seated. Thanks for coming. Welcome to the White House. Congratulations on a great NASCAR Winston Cup Series. We’re honored you all are here. I see a lot of the Bubbas who work in my administration who have shown up. (Laughter.) I wonder why. I’ve hosted champions from many sports here at the White House — the first time, however, we ever parked stock cars in the South Lawn. (Laughter.) We’re proud you all are here. (Applause.)

CART-OWRS Merger “Unlikely”
December 3, 2003
Following is the text of an early Wednesday release from CART concerning the proposed sale to OWRS.
INDIANAPOLIS, IN - (December 2, 2003) - Championship Auto Racing Teams, Inc. (”Championship” or “Company”) (OTCBB: CPNT.OB) announced today that representatives of Open Wheel Racing Series (”OWRS”) informed the company that OWRS believes that a number of conditions of the pending merger between the parties will not be satisfied by the time of the special meeting of stockholders scheduled for December 19, 2003. Championship has considered OWRS’ position and believes that it is unlikely that the condition requiring the absence of a material adverse effect will be satisfied because it expects that there will be a net decrease in the number of teams planning on participating in the series for the 2004 season from the number that participated in the 2003 season.

Team McLaren will not suffer the indignity and embarassment of 2003 and the now infamous MP4-18. That is, not racing the car due to failed crash tests. And missing out on the championship(s) due to an obsolescent car.

December 2, 2003
MOORESVILLE, N.C. (Dec. 1) –Ryan Newman’s 37th-place finish in the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway wasn’t what he and his ALLTEL team were banking on to close out what they felt was a great season overall. The beginning and ending of the 2003 season certainly doesn’t speak for the remarkable year Newman had and his Matt Borland-led team experienced.
