CART December Vote
December 2, 2003
Like many folks, I was wondering how the shareholders vote coming up is going to be managed, and how many votes are needed to consumate the deal. I saw a replay of Dave Despain’s interview with OWRS principal Paul Gentilozzi, and it shed some light on the subject.
According to Paul, the OWRS stock block, consisting of 23% of the outstanding stock will not count in the vote. In order to approve the deal, 51% of the remaining share holders will have to vote in favor of the sale. The wild card in the sale has been John Vannini’s potential to scuttle the deal with his shares and any other proxy’s he may gather. With only an 8% interest in the common stock, it would seem a reach for him to gain a blocking position to kill the transition.
In any event, what is to be gained by hoding up the sale or sinking the series altogether? OWRS is comprised of experienced racers who will hopefully come up with the cash needed to continue and expand open wheel road racing in the USA
Brazil Back On The Calendar

With much needed improvements to the facilities. With last years near tragedy at the rain soaked April event, there is no doubt that the circuit needs upgrades. With a new date in October, the promoters should have enough time to sort out all the problems, track related and otherwise.

Wilson Out, Klien In At Jag
December 2, 2003
It is now official that Jaguar will replace Justin Wilson with young Austrian stand-out Christian Klien. If you’ve been following this sports for more than five minutes you know that this is completely the norm, but something inside me can’t help but feel sorry for Justin. We’ve all watched him work so hard with his manager to raise the funds to buy himself into a ride at Minardi. Only to be lured away to a “better” team at Jaguar…only to have them drop him. I can’t help but wonder if he would have been better off staying with the back markers at Minardi for all of the 2003 season. The main question now is…where does he go from here?

Another of the musical chairs that make up the Formula 1 grid has been filled as former Sauber pilot Nick Heidfeld has signed contract to drive for Jordan next season. However, moving to cash strapped Jordan, the young German will take a pay cut from the reported $4.5 million a year he was making with the Sauber team. “Money is not important for me. I just want to stay in Formula One. I am really looking forward to this challenge,” said Heidfeld. Good to know his head is in the right place…

Waiting On Kodak
December 1, 2003
Every year there is one sponsor that just won’t make up their mind about where their money is going next season and it holds everyone up. This year it’s Kodak. Long suffering sponsor of the Morgan-McLure #4 Cup car, Kodak is rumored to be shopping the Roush #99 and the DEI #1 cars…but other people’s rides hang in the balance as well…
