Make Or Break Year For Coulthard

December 29, 2003

I would take the viewpoint that there is no pressure on Coulthard, or at least marginal pressure. He knows he needs a ride for ‘05, and all he has to do is generate points in ‘04. Williams, Toyota, BAR, or Renault will be looking to upgrade in ‘05, and if he has a reasonably competitive year I would think a seat will come his way.

Schumi Denies Exorbitant Salary

December 29, 2003

Michael Schumacher has said that the salary estimates of $50 million a year made by the press are ridiculous. But honestly….even if those numbers were true…it would be a bargain for Ferrari considering what his championships have done for US sales alone of Ferrari cars in the past few years…

Ross Brawn On Ferrari ‘03 Season

December 28, 2003

crash.net: Miracle gelling solution for Ferrari.

According to Ross “The Rat” Brawn, the tire change forced upon Michelin by Ferrari’s formal complaint to the FIA had nothing to do with Ferrari’s resurgence after the Italian Grand Prix. Riiight, and Toyota was spying on you, too. Ross should be gagged or outright banned from racing for the good of the sport.

Rusty Wallace and Larry Carter

December 28, 2003

Penske Racing South has named Larry Carter as the Crew Chief for Rusty Wallace and the No.2 Miller Brewing car. Larry brings a blend of old school car set up experience and new age aero finesse which hopefully will put an end to Rusty’s 98 race winless streak.

“He’s a new age type of leader, but has an old-school background and should mesh extremely well into our operation,” Erickson said.

“I think he’ll have a level of communication with Rusty and his team that is second to none and his capabilities in working with Matt Borland and the staff of the No. 12 team will be exceptional.”

Only if Rusty listens.

Childress Warming Up To Proposed “Playoff” Points System

December 26, 2003

One proposed way of modifying the points system in Nascar is to have the top 10 teams run in a playoff format in the last ten races of the year. Richard Childress is “warming up” to the idea. Yeah, him and every other multiple car owner should love the idea, as they have the best chance of finishing a team in the top ten.

I would only favor the system if multi-car owners can only qualify one car for the proposed run-off, thereby increasing the odds for the smaller teams to make the final ten.

A.J. And Champ Cars

December 26, 2003

No, not Mr. Foyt, were talking about the reigning Toyota Atlantic Champ A.J. Allmendinger; and he only has eyes on Champ Cars. Just what the series needs, young drivers dedicated to road racing with a vision of what road racing can be. Bless your heart A. J., and may the series survive.
