The Saviors Cometh
December 19, 2003
Disagree with me if you wish…but I think the new owners of the “Champ Car” racing series formerly known as CART really have their stuff together. The Gentilozzi/Kalkhoven/Forsythe triumvirate has, what appears at the outset, a solid, focused plan for the 2004 season. The highlights of this plan are an event in Vegas, the purchase of the TransAm series, and moving TV coverage to SpikeTV…yes…away from SPEED.
When I first read about the TV move I was shocked and disheartened, but when you think about it, it’s perfect. SPEED is a channel dominated by stock car racing coverage…everything else if filler. SpikeTV is a channel catering to “guys.” “Guys” that like fast cars and fast women…etc, etc. Why act as one network’s “filler” when you can build new relationships with a ready and willing audience on another network that just hasn’t been exposed to you yet? In theory is sounds perfectly logical…this will be an even more interesting season than the last!
