Villeneuve’s Arrogance…

January 15, 2004

…cost him a seat in F1. This enlightening statement from Rubens Barrichelo. Sorry Spyhawk, its more “Attack Jacques” time. Whatever driving skills the man possesed were far outshadowed in the last 3-5 years by his constant carping and finger pointing for all things gone wrong.

Now Michael, when first signed on by Ferrari, focused all criticism within the team and fostered a spirit of team unity as opposed to confrontation. Beyond being a talented driver, his ability to bring a team together to get the best results is truly remarkable

New Year, New Look….

January 14, 2004

…and hopefully new and better results. At least so hopes the four time Cup Champion Jeff Gordon.

thatsracin.com: Gordon seeks a clean start in the 2004 race season

Another thought on the new scoring system. If Jeff manages to win three more championships will he be held in the same esteem as Dale Senior and the King? Or will his accomplishment be minimized, because he won three under the new scoring system and only four by the old method that Dale Sr. and Petty raced under.

Like Roger Maris when he broke the Babe’s 60 home run record in 162 games as opposed to the Bambino’s 158 game measure. Oy, the problems keep piling up. Leave the system alone, just adjust the point allocation for each race.

Nascar Senior Series Proposal

January 14, 2004

Excuse me, but I seem to have heard this idea before. Oh yeah, from me. While not staking any claim to sole proprietorship of a great idea, I will claim to suggesting it in print first. Contrary opinions (with proof) are welcome.

Barrichello With Ferrari Through 2006

January 14, 2004

Michael Schumacher’s faithful whipping boy…er…teammate Rubens Barrichello has re-upped with his Ferrari team through 2006. With the signing Rubens has now set his sights on winning the F1 title. But how can he do that when the only way they would allow him to really go for it is if Michael was out with a season ending injury? More power to ya Rubens…

I guess this pretty much sets Giancarlo Giancarlo Fisichella’s course for the next few years.

Brack’s Impressive Recovery

January 14, 2004

kenny_brack_standing.jpgKenny Brack is eager to get back into a race car in the IRL. His recovery is going remarkably fast due to Kenny’s mental and physical toughness. I highly doubt a driver in poor physical condition could recover this quickly. If you’ve seen footage of the crash that Kenny’s body was subjected to this will impress you…

Perspective On Testing Times

January 14, 2004

Good old Larry Mac offers some perspective on the NEXTEL Cup testing times coming out of Daytona…

“…from the four years that I spend with Richard Childress, I know we were taught not to show our hands in Daytona testing. Learn what you need to learn, but don’t go down there and try to be the fastest car. Do it when it pays and counts when we come back down to Speedweeks to qualify and race.

At RCR, we always were very conservative at our Daytona winter testing. How can you be conservative? Run a little more spoiler angle or run a bigger spoiler. You can still have a good test, but you won’t run as fast as you probably will when you go back down there for Speedweeks.”

Same deal as F1 warm-up times and practice times. Sure a Jaguar could end up on top of the charts, but chances are the Ferraris and Mclarens were scrubbing in some tires or had some other goal for the test session besides max speed…
