Official Bid By IRL For CART Assets
January 22, 2004
As open wheel road racing sluices down the old porcelain convenience, the only ones making money off this situation, as usual, are the lawyers.
Eight sets of attorneys are expected to be present to stake their claims, including Carr for CART, Knauer for the unsecured creditors, along with barristers for Elkhart Lake’s Road America, 88 Corporation and International Speedway Corp., Walker Racing, OWRS and Thomas Begley and Associates.
While I do believe the IRL will make a significant offer for the rights to the Long Beach and other key racing venues, it ultimately will come down to the lawyers and the judge. The judge needs to extract as much cash from the auction as the traffic will bear to satisfy creditors, and I’m hoping it will be OWRS. They will maintain a significant road course prescence as opposed to the IRL’s approach of a couple road courses a year.

Smack Back By Max!
January 22, 2004
The war of words escalates between the beleagured FIA chief and the narrow minded twits of the EU. One good thing may arise if the teams race under the legalities of the warrant law: Could “Ross The Rat” be extradited for perjury if he makes false accusations against other teams or drivers? Maybe this warrant law could be good thing, eh?!

Andretti Calls For CART’s Demise
January 22, 2004
The best part of this article is the comments section at the bottom where all the Canadian CART supporters BLAST Andretti for stating his opinion that CART needs to go away. Canadians have long been huge CART supporters and have been recently joined by the Mexicans. It’s a damn shame that this series has huge support groups to the north and south, but can’t survive in its own home country, the US of A.
NASCAR Should Take A Que From The IRL???
January 22, 2004
When I saw Kevin Shepke’s headline (below) I realized that this may be the first time EVER that I have heard anyone say that NASCAR should adopt an idea from the IRL. Usually it’s the other way around…”the IRL needs to do XYZ to be more like NASCAR.” Maybe Mike Lovecchio was closer to being on the money than anyone gave him credit for…

In Your Face, Max!
January 22, 2004
Apparently the bureaucrats of the EU don’t care at all about the implications of the warrent law under discussion. To the point where they will not consider any waivers for sporting events like racing. Untill the first European event is boycotted, then watch them try to react to the public howl over lost income, jobs, prestige, etc. Any citizens that tolerate such interference with basic human rights deserve what they get. A little revolution is good for the soul, throw the EU bastards out!!

More Comparisons To The WWF
January 21, 2004
George has always considered many of NASCAR’s antics to be like “the WWF on wheels.” ESPN’s Ray Ratto has a very funny conclusion to an article that runs along those lines…
“OOOOHHH, he’s just pulled a torque wrench out from beneath his tights, and the referee doesn’t see it, and OOOOHHH, here comes the sponsor and he’s just blown some flash powder in his face, and now the entire Waltrip family is running out from backstage, and this looks like it could get really ugly … and remember, it’s all brought to you by Viagra.”
Or is it Levitra? You know, without a car to read, we’re just not sure.

F1 Boycott A Real Threat According To Mosley
January 21, 2004
When Ayrton Senna was killed, Frank Williams (owner of the car he died in) and other members of the Williams F1 team where put on trial in Italy for his death. The simple absurdity of that alone should be examined and remedied.
However, now there is a new law being adopted by several countries in the European Union whereby if such an event were to occur again, Frank Williams and his associates would be rounded up at their homes in England and transported back to the country where the death occurred and be thrown in prison to await trial. As a result of this, the team owners are ready to boycott races in the countries adopting this law.
Laws like these make sense when dealing with illegal trafficking, terrorism, murder…but not auto racing. Accidents happen in racing and sometimes people die. Everyone from the driver to each fan in the stands should understand and accept the risks of participating and/or attending an auto race…but I guess I’m living in a non-litigious fantasy land…
