(NASDAQ:NXTL), the title sponsor of NASCAR’s premier national series, will launch its NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series advertising campaign this Sunday, Jan. 18. Hooray for the fans, the more racing the better! But will the teams hold up under the extended season? Sounds like a built-in legal appeal for “The Rat” if Ferrari should stumble this year.

With McLaren signing up Kimi Raikkonen for the 2005 season, the implication is that David Coulthard is out. Not hardly. If Kimi falls on his face and David excels this year, watch how fast McLaren drop Kimi and re-sign David.
In F1, your only as good as your last season. The top teams will sign the best available drivers to future contracts, but will not hesitate to drop them if they waiver in between. That’s what big budgets get you, and partially why the budgets get bigger and bigger every year.
