No Trust In Jordans Future
February 8, 2004
Is it me, or is this entire driver-owner situation at Jordan seem a bit off-kilter to everyone else? We have a team owner who needs a driver with sponsor dollars (Eddie Jordan), and a driver with sponsor dollars (Verstappen) who needs a ride, and these two knuckle heads can’t agree on a contract? I would love to know the particulars of which side couldn’t come to terms. At age 31, Jos must realize that his options to drive F1 are getting slimmer every year, and he still balks at coming to terms with Jordan. I just don’t get it…

Why Gentilozzi And OWRS Will Succeed
February 8, 2004
Because the man loves everything about cars and in particular racing cars that go like hell. Paul brings an unbridled passion and pure joy to everything he embraces, coupled with an acute business sense. Those two factors will be a large part of the OWRS succeeding in the coming seasons. From my lips to God’s ear!!

First The Playoffs, Now This
February 7, 2004
Just how badly does NASCAR want to be the NFL? First they installed the widely debated and often despised “Playoff system” where the last 10 races will be a “Chase to the Championship.” Now they’ve taken another step to emulate the venerable NFL…
…NASCAR officials were to begin using a series of hand signals to indicate penalties, similar to a football referee, Saturday night in the Budweiser Shootout at Daytona International Speedway…
…the official on pit road closest to the offending team or car will handle the signal, making sure he catches the crew chief’s eye as the action on track continues.
Dear NASCAR, THIS IS NOT FOOTBALL! We are doing just fine; we don’t need to be like all the other sports. Don’t worry…it will keep growing…the money will keep coming.
These officials are going to look just plain goofy doing this…

Mika Rips The Field
February 6, 2004
The usually terse Finn had lots to say when evaluating the field for potential successors to Michael Schumacher’s crown in 2004. I particularly enjoyed his assessment of brother Ralf:
“Ralf is much too inconsistent for someone who’s driven more than 100 grands prix,” was his opinion. “Sometimes I think he should work a bit more and moan a bit less.”
“Sometimes he can be very, very good — Magny-Cours last year, for example. But then, after that, even though he had no mechanical failures, he scored only five more world championship points.”
