Tony George’s Media Musings
February 25, 2004
Tony George has been on a bit of a media tour this week. Monday the Indy Racing League President was on SPEED’s “Wind Tunnel with Dave Despain” as well as in the pages of USA TODAY. Here are some of the key quotes…
“I suppose if all the stars align, it would be possible,” he said when asked about a possible future relationship with Champ Car owners OWRS, “But that’s not, as I understand, what they are interested in.”
Predicting This Years Champion
February 25, 2004
All you have to do, is watch to see who wins the season opener in Miami this weekend. Both Scott Dixon and Sam Hornish won the last two openers at Homestead on their way to winning the titles in 2002 and 2003. Right now, I’m more concerned over how many cars will be in the field, and how close the racing will be.

Schumi looks Beatable
February 25, 2004
Obviously, this bloke wrote the article before Michael smashed the Imola track record yesterday. All these drivers and people “in the know” predicting his demise this year, are merely expressing wishful thinking.

Michelin Concede Title Prospects To Bridgestone
February 25, 2004
Everyone is sandbagging, even the tire companies! Except for Michael, who is flattering about the test his opposition will present, but is very confident of another title.
All I know for sure is, if Michelin cannot develop a rain tire to at least match the Bridgestone performance, they may as well ride on their rims. For all the talk about Kimi and Juan blowing last years chase, it was more about the rubber then the pilots. Pierre Dupasquier is brimming with confidence over this years wets:
“On the other hand, it doesn’t seem like the same happened over longer distances. At least by what little we could see. We have made steps forward with the dry-weather tyres, but especially with the wets. From this point of view it’s like being on another planet.”
The test will be in the racing, Pierre; if your wet componds don’t perform as advertised you may have to move to another planet!

Michael Shatters Imola Lap Record
February 25, 2004
Sure, its only pre-season testing. But when it happens less then two weeks before the season opener in Melbourne, you know the other teams are in a dither. The new lap record chopped nearly 8 tenths off the previous mark. Will Michael ever loose his competitive edge? You can be sure the opposition wonders, and prays, for just that!

Penalty For Engine Change Too Lax?
February 25, 2004
I am all excited about the start of a new season, partly due to the new rules; especially the one engine per weekend rule. I thought it would tighten up the competition somewhat and help limit costs. Silly me.
