Dark Weekend, Lesson For All
March 26, 2004
SPEED channel is in production of a documentary on the tragic weekend in 1994 where the world lost Ayrton Senna. The retrospective, part of SPEED channel’s “F1 Decade” series will air on April 3, as part of the Bahrain Grand Prix coverage.
While the loss of Senna was devastating, newer fans to the sport may be unaware of the other death and accidents that filled that scarred weekend. From the Barrichello accident, the death of Roland Ratzenberger, the starting grid accident that injured four spectators, and culminating in the pit lane accident that injured several team crewmen, those three days at Imola seemed cursed from the outset
Hopefully the special will not be exploitive in its approach, and will remind us all of the losses we all suffered, and that the potential for track carnage still exists.
