Jeff Gordon = Third Martinsville Pole

April 16, 2004

Jeff Gordon scored his third straight pole at the oldest track on NASCAR’s tour. Now, if he can match his previous two finishes, he’ll have a true hat trick of three poles and three wins to go with them.

Martinsville Madness

April 16, 2004

What else would you call 500 laps at a flat (virtually) 1/2 mile track? With all the talk and rumors of a soon to be 40 race season, the folks of NASCAR are overlooking one thing: Most fans I know hardly ever watch an entire race anymore. Don’t get me wrong, the short tracks of Bristol and Martinsville are probably now the only entertaining races left on the schedule. Lots of bangin’ and rubbin’ and passing in traffic. With a couple of pit lane incidents after the race as a usual bonus.

Ron “Foot In Mouth” Dennis

April 16, 2004

I guess when your team has a whopping 4 constructors points (3 more than Sauber and Minardi) a person will say almost anything to deflect attention away from himself and else where. Why would Dennis invoke the great Ayrton Senna’s name in heaping further abuse on Michael Schumacher? Other than being more than willing to take a cheap shot, and the simple fact someone asked. Why not “I can’t really say”, Ron? Spend more time on your team’s miserable performance this year and leave the soon to be seven time world champ alone!

As the long awaited first Champ Car season under OWRS ownership is finally upon us, I’ve been taking a closer look at the field that will roll off this Sunday in Long Beach. Now that Champ Car has essentially been stripped down and the rebuilding has begun, I’m wondering what new heroes will arise. To think that the old standbys fleeing to the IRL will leave the series devoid of personality is foolhardy to say the least. Paul Tracy will most likely be the man to beat once again, but what of the rest of the field?

Getting Stronger Day By Day

April 14, 2004

With the Long Beach Grand Prix finally within sight, most enthusiasts of the sport are feeling better about the battered Leagues chances of survival. As long as OWRS has the funding to continue to subsidize the races, Champ Car racing will have the chance to show the public why they will survive. It’s all about the competition of road racing.

AGR-Penske Duel To Indy?

April 14, 2004

One thing lacking in both the IRL and Champ Car series of late has been a consistent driver-team competition. In the heady days of CART what was better than watching Michael and Little Al battle for wins? Or Robby Gordon bumping wheels with Michael, and everyone else, for that matter. Well the IRL may be on the verge of discovering that kind of magic again with the emergence of AGR as a force in the IRL.

Long Beach Preview

April 14, 2004

Well racing fans, this is one story that I thought we would not get to read this year. Maybe I should have more faith as our editor in chief does; what doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger. Champ Car racing needs a real strong kick off race, to make up for lost time and lost visibility. What could be better than Tracy, Bourdais, and Jourdain battling to the wire for the win? My pick? Bourdais showed amazing speed for a rookie last year, with a full season under his belt look for him to not only win the Long Beach event, he will also battle Tracy for the championship down to the wire.

Motegi True Test For Honda

April 14, 2004

Can Honda survive the shame of losing yet another race to arch rival Toyota at the track that they own? The engine makers best hope for a win, and an end to the Toyota dominance of the last two years, may be newcomer Adrian Fernandez. The Johnny-come-lately of the IRL has won two prior races here in the now defunct CART series. Just don’t bend the tranny Adrian, some of us would just like to see you race, win or loose.
