PHOENIX, Ariz. (April 8, 2004) — Max Angelelli turned the fastest lap times during both Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series practice sessions for the Food City 250 at Phoenix International Raceway on Thursday. His quickest time around the 1.51-mile road course came under the lights with a 57.501-second lap at 94.537 mph in the SunTrust Racing No. 10 Pontiac Riley.

McLaren To Scrap The MP4/19

David Coulthard takes the politicaly correct approach for a man without a contract, when it comes to evaluating the McLaren MP4/19. It’s not the Mercedes power plant, though we are short on straight line speed. It’s not the chasis, though the car is twitchy in the middle and exits of corners. Well David, I’d say that’s a round about way of saying the car is a total failure. And ask Kimi what he thinks of this years engine package.

He has started from the top five in his last seven races at Martinsville. Four of those seven top-five starts were Bud Poles, including a Bud Pole sweep there in 2003. Gordon has competed in 22 races at Martinsville and has scored five victories and 16 Top-10 finishes, including a sweep there one year ago.
At last week’s race at Texas Motor Speedway, Gordon finished third and climbed from 12th to ninth in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Top 10. He has scored five top-10 finishes in 2004.
