Jimmie Johnson ran last and under the lights in qualifying after Ryan Newman, going out in full sunlight and the heat of the day broke his own old track record. “The last shall be first” applies once again, as Johnson beat the old record of 28.930 sec/186.657 mph. Johnson’s sole qualifying lap was 28.860 sec/187.052 mph. The first three cars all beat the old record.

Carl Edwards Responds to NASCAR Error

NASCAR has admitted that the caution lights did flash on briefly during the closing laps of the Infineon 200 Craftsman Truck Series race at Charlotte last week. This week’s NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Teleconference featured Dale Earnhardt Jr., driver of the No. 8 Budweiser Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Earnhardt Jr. discussed his season to date as the series moves to Lowe’s Motor Speedway for the Coca-Cola 600 this weekend.
Earnhardt Jr. is the current NEXTEL Cup Series point leader with a 40-point lead over second place driver, Jimmie Johnson. He has won the Daytona 500 along with races in Atlanta and Richmond; and has eight top-10 finishes so far this year.

Here is an example of the level or ridiculousness that F1 has gone to. When Christian Klien crashed his car nose first into the guardrail at the Loews hairpin this weekend at Monaco there was more lost than just the race. As part of a promotion with The Steinmetz Diamond Group both Klien and his teammate Mark Webber were carrying $200,000 diamonds mounted on the noses of their cars. After Klien’s wreck, the car came back to the pits sans diamond.
