Almost hidden in the NASCAR press conference held Friday is the revelation that NASCAR very much does not want their business practices revealed. Deep in the transcript of the conference Q&A is Brian France’s statement that: “we have a history of being very aggressive in defending NASCAR’s business practices. We’re aggressive in this case. We’ll be very aggressive in the future. Make no mistake about that.”

Tony Pedregon Blasts Fastest Funny Car Speed In History Friday

COMMERCE, Ga. — Tony Pedregon raced to the qualifying lead in Funny Car Friday at the 24th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals presented by Pontiac at Atlanta Dragway.

David Grubnic, Larry Morgan and Andrew Hines also were leaders in their respective categories at the $1.8 million race, the seventh of 23 events in the $50 million NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.

Richmond Qualifying Results

Brian vickers set a blistering track record qualifying time of 129.983 mph at the newly surfaced R.I.R. track. Right behind him at 129.970 was “Rocket Man” Ryan Newman. Now if they can only take that daytime speed and convert it into night time fast, we should see some good racing. The best thing about the night races is the fact no one knows how well their cars will run once the sun goes down and the track cools. You may start in the bottom 10 but still have a chance to finish in the top ten.

Rockingham Countdown

2,1,0…as in 0 races for Rockingham next year. NASCAR released it’s 2005 schedule this morning at a press conference at Richmond Virginia. In addition to Rockingham off the schedule, Darlington will have one race next year, a Saturday night race on Mother’s Day weekend. The beneficiary’s of the realignment are Texas Motor Speedway and Phoenix International Raceway, each with an additional event next year.
