Opening Weekend Practice Summary
May 10, 2004
At last, we have some practice times at IMS leading up to the much anticipated Indy 500. The anticipation, on my part anyway, is to see what kind of speed the teams will extract from the new, smaller engine package.
Top Ten Heading To Richmond
May 10, 2004
Ten races into the season, heading into Richmond International Raceway for racing under the lights Saturday night. The top ten in the standings is an almost sweep of “Young Gun” drivers. The only veteran racers out there are Bobby LaBonte, Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon. Seems all that marketing hype may have some foundation under it!
Monaco First Loss For Ferrari This Year?
May 10, 2004
The first and last hope of seeing anyone but a Ferrari driver in P1 at the end of a race may be Monaco. And the driver to do it will be in a Renault or BAR Honda. Why? It will all come down to qualifying. On an impassable city circuit the driver who grabs pole and doesn’t break his car is most likely to win. Williams and McLaren have not presented a threat of any kind as yet. Other than Juan threatening to run MS off the road. Hey Juan, you’ve got to catch him to ram him!
Ferrari 1-2 At Catalunya
May 9, 2004
It was yet another dominating performance from Michael Schumacher today in Spain. He claimed his 5th straight win at Circuit de Catalunya while his teammate Rubens Barrichello followed him up in second. The Renault teammates followed the big red machine, however the Spanish crowd would not get to see thier hero Fernando Alonso on the podium as Jarno Trulli took third and Alonso followed in 4th.
Schumacher On Pole At Catalunya
May 8, 2004
Life returned to normal in F1 today as Michael Schumacher took his 5th straight pole at Circuit de Catalunya. Juan Montoya followed Michael in second and BAR’s Takuma Sato will start third.
Michael’s challenger from last week, Jenson Button, dashed his pole hopes when he ran wide onto the grass in Campsa corner completing his lap, but far behind the leaders time. SpeedTV’s Steve Matchett was keen to point out that the reason for Jenson’s bobble appeared to be something with his left rear tire and the bead almost coming away from the rim. Jenson will roll off 14th tomorrow behind Kimi Raikkonen.

May 6, 2004
The Director of Ferrari’s insanely successful F1 program, Jean Todt, has just received a promotion into the role of Managing Director of Ferrari. The move was part of a larger management shuffle inside the Fiat conglomerate of which Ferrari is a part.

Schadenrennen
May 4, 2004
He’s insanely talented. He has won Grand Prix after Grand Prix, and seems absolutely invulnerable. The gods love him. He can take certain defeat and, using a seemingly endless reserve of luck, skill, and cojones, turn it into a victory. His rivals seethe with bitterness and jealousy, and fans wonder if the sport will ever be free of his domination.
Max Emerging As The New Power In F1
May 4, 2004
I would have believed any result you could have postulated from todays meeting in Monaco, except one: The actual outcome. Max Mosely, by the sheer force of his position and personality (supported by Bernie) has seemingly brought about the change everyone has begged for but no one has been able to implement.
