Two-time Indy 500 winner and open wheel racing legend Al Unser Jr. has decided to call it a career. Unser decided to stop driving after this past weekend’s IRL SunTrust Indy Challenge at Richmond International Raceway where he drove for Patrick racing. Unser will remain with Patrick Racing as an advisor. The team will name a new driver shortly.

Ralf Could Be Out 12 Weeks

Poor Ralf Schumacher’s life just keeps getting worse. Ralf will be missing up to 12 weeks after tests have revealed that he has two spinal fractures as a result of his US GP wreck. However, it appears that whoever his stand-in at Williams ends up being will be able to provide Frank with a good, in-depth look at their skills.
Taylor, Panther to Part Company

IRL Rookie Mark Taylor and his Panther Racing team have decided to part ways effective this weekend at Kansas Speedway. The reigning Menards Infiniti Pro Series champ crashed in five of the six races this season.

BRIAN FRANCE: Thank you to all of the media members that have joined us this morning.
I want to start by saying when we started out this year, we did have a lot of questions to issues that we’re facing in the industry and one of them was how would Nextel in their inaugural year do in replacing Winston. We obviously announced the Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Championship format and there was a lot of questions on how that would play out. Toyota’s interest in the Truck Series, how would that be received, and how would they spice up that series. And of course, you had a major antitrust lawsuit that was hovering over the industry.
