Gordon Wins 4th Brickyard 400

SPEEDWAY, Ind. (AP) — It took overtime, but Jeff Gordon joined the heroes of his youth Sunday with a fourth win in the Brickyard 400.

The driver who spent his teen years living within 25 miles of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, made history, joining open-wheel stars A.J. Foyt, Al Unser and Rick Mears as four times winners at the historic track.

Casey Mears on Brickyard 400 Pole

Casey Mears earned his second Bud Pole in a row Saturday, taking the top starting spot for Sunday’s Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Mears broke the track qualifying record. He toured the 2.5-mile oval in 48.311 seconds, an average speed of 186.293 miles per hour. Ward Burton will share the front row with Mears after clocking in at 48.546/185.391.

Brickyard Practice - Leffler Fast, Pruett, Sadler & Biffle Crash

Hermie Sadler had his throttle hang and hit the wall in Turn Two while Greg Biffle’s car was set up a bit loose, causing him to spin in Turn Four. Meanwhile, Scott Pruett spun in the first turn and flattened the left side of his No. 09 Phoenix Racing Dodge, earning the veteran driver a ride to a local hospital for precautionary X-rays.

While all the excitement on the track centered on these incidents, Jason Leffler, in a one-off ride for team sponsor Haas Automation, set the quickest time in Friday’s practice.
