Collected notes and quotes from various drivers and crew following the Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway, Aug. 1, 2004.DALE EARNHARDT JR., NO. 8 BUDWEISER CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO - Note: Dale Jr. turned over the wheel to relief driver John Andretti on lap 52. The actual driver change took 1:22. The full stop was 1:42. Andretti pitted again to readjust and re-index the wheel. Junior doesn’t have 100 percent mobility in his left leg. While sitting in the car, he is unable to stretch it out all the way, which creates cramping and the leg falls asleep. The No. 8 Chevy was then black-flagged by NASCAR for not maintaining minimum speed on the race track. The cause was a broken front sway bar.

Johnson Sweeps Pocono

Jimmie Johnson swept both NASCAR NEXTEL Cup races at Pocono, PA. In the August 1 Pennsylvania 500, he led 124 of the 200 laps, easily passing competitors wherever he wanted on the track. Mark Martin finished second, Kasey Kahne brought a damaged car home third, followed by Greg Biffle and Johnson’s teammate Jeff Gordon in a second Hendrick Motorsports car.

Robin Miller Says Indy 500 Practice to be Shorter

In his column on the newly-revamped (and in this writer’s opinion, even harder to navigate and less attractive than before! Folks, if you don’t have broadband and the latest browsers with Flash, don’t bother!) SPEEDTV.com site, writer Robin Miller states that practice for the Indy 500 will be shortened in 2005. The always outspoken Miller predicts only eight days of practice and two days of time trials for the Memorial Day race next year.

The points leader will be starting from pole for the first time this year, which does not bode well for the rest of the field.
