Machine Green Dominates Final Nazareth Race

Though Roger Penske had his ship righted for qualifying at Nazareth, the “new guard” in team ownership, Andretti Green Racing, sent the Penske squad away from the final race at Nazareth with no trophies. The Nazareth track, which Penske designed, will be shut down after this event. However, the sentimentality of this win is just as great for local resident Michael Andretti whose family has made this area of Pennsylvania their home for many years.

Team Penske led off the season with Sam Hornish’s victory in Florida. I for one thought it was the beginning of another dominating season, Penske style. However this was not to be. If you told me that at the end of August, that win in Miami would be Penske’s only of the season so far I would thought you were crazy. However it looks like “The Captain” may have his ship righted in Nazareth as his drivers Helio Castroneves and Sam Hornish will roll off 1-2 for tomorrow’s Firestone Indy 225 at Nazareth Speedway.

Jeff Gordon continued his run of quick practice laps followed by pole positions in the 2004 season at Bristol this Friday. He beat the field as the only driver with a lap less than 15 seconds and quicker than 128 mph for his sixth pole this year and his fourth in the last six races at Bristol. Rookie Kasey Kahne will start next to the four-time champion. Several cars spun or hit the wall in qualifying, including Brendan Gaughan and Michael Waltrip.
