MILLINGTON, Tenn. - Funny Car driver Whit Bazemore earned his 28th career No. 1 qualifying position Saturday at the 17th annual O’Reilly Auto Parts Mid-South Nationals at Memphis Motorsports Park.
David Grubnic (Top Fuel), Dave Connolly (Pro Stock) and Andrew Hines (Pro Stock Bike) also were the No. 1 qualifiers in their respective categories at the $1.6 million race, the 17th of 23 events in the $50 million NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.

Elliott Sadler headed the final practice “Happy Hour” Saturday morning at Michigan International Speedway. In the last session before Sunday’s GFS Marketplace 400, he pushed the M&Ms Ford to a best lap of 38.392 sec/187.295 mph, a thin .050 second ahead of Kasey Kahne’s Dodge.

Mother Nature Wins Qualifying Duel with NASCAR

Mother Nature spoiled NASCAR’s qualifying for the second week in a row as rains kept the cars parked Friday. The weather prevented qualifying so the field will start Sunday’s GFS Marketplace 400 in order of owner points. Starting in the same positions as last week at Watkins Glen, Jimmie Johnson holds the inside front row position with Jeff Gordon beside him. Last week’s winner, Tony Stewart, will start outside the second row, next to Dale Earnhardt Jr.
