Busch Dominates Loudon, Earnhardt Takes Point Lead

Kurt Busch completed a sweep of the 2004 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup races at New Hampshire International Speedway by leading over half the race before leading Matt Kenseth across the line by 2.051 seconds. Dale Earnhardt Jr leapt to the lead in points with his third-place finish, plus five points for leading two laps. Earnhardt and Busch both ended the day with the same number of points but Earnhardt gains the edge due to more race wins this season.

Rain Postpones Lucas Oil Nationals

MOHNTON, Pa. - Two days of heavy rain showers from the remnants of Hurricane Ivan completely saturated the grounds of Maple Grove Raceway Saturday, including the racer pit areas and spectator parking lots, forcing NHRA officials to postpone the 20th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals until Oct. 8-10.
Ivan Rules Sylvania 300 Qualifying

With the weather forecast dismal, the starting grid for Sunday afternoon’s Sylvania 300 race will be set according to points. This puts Jeff Gordon on pole with teammate Jimmie Johnson beside him.
Kurt Busch had barely finished his run when qualifying shut down for rain on the track. Only 16 drivers out of the 51 entries made their efforts before the remnants of Hurricane Ivan interrupted the day’s activities.
Newman Tops New Hampshire Practice

“Rocketman” over 1 mph faster than the field
New Hampshire’s first practice, and the first practice of NASCAR’s final ten races, leading to the new NEXTEL Cup championship, ended, as so many have, with Ryan Newman atop the speed charts. Newman’s lap of 28.538 seconds at 133.464 mph beat his track qualifying record lap of 28.561sec/133.3567 mph.

Jaguar Closes F1 Era

The BBC Sport is reporting today that Jaguar will end their Formula One efforts. Jaguar bought out Stewart Racing’s team several years ago, renaming the team Jaguar. Apparently, Ford will sell off the team instead of rebadging the cars as Fords. Also, Ford has dropped support for the Cosworth engine-building firm which provided engines to Jordan and Minardi so the change will cause those teams difficulties in the coming season.
In more bad news from Jaguar, the original Jaguar plant in Coventry, England will be closed as a manufacturing center.
All-Female DWD Racing to Contest VIR Grand-Am Cup

DWD Racing will make its debut in the Grand-Am Cup series during the VIR 400 presented by SunTrust at VIRginia International Raceway, scheduled for the weekend of Oct. 1-3.
Team owner Julie Allen will share the No. 21 Nuzzo Motor Sport Mini Cooper S in the three-hour VIR 250 on Oct. 2 with renowned female racer Divina Galica in the ST class of the Grand-Am Cup. The team will be sponsored by Sleep Inn, Sir Richard’s Steakhouse and Lounge, Sunoco, Comfort Inn, Mary’s Diner, Superior Electric, VHTA (Virginia Hospitality & Travel Association), Vaden & Associates and J. Allen & Associates. DWD Racing will be the only all-female team in the race.
