LAS VEGAS - Scott Kalitta raced to the qualifying lead in Top Fuel Friday at the ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals.
Eric Medlen, Jason Line and GT Tonglet also were qualifying leaders in their respective categories at the $1.8 million race, the 22nd of 23 events in the $50 million NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.

Ryan Newman headed the field in Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500 qualifying Friday evening at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Running about the middle of the lineup, he set best time at 28.939 sec/191.575 mph, earning his third-straight pole on tracks including NASCAR’s slowest, at Martinsville and fastest, Atlanta.

The end of the 2004 Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford season is rapidly approaching with just one week left before the season finale in Mexico City.
But in auto racing, the end of one season simply signals the beginning of a new one, and the Champ Car World Series today marked the start of the 2005 season with the announcement of 14 race dates for next year.
Comments on Hendrick Team Loss

By now the immensity of the loss to Hendrick Motorsports and to racing in general is starting to sink in. While we didn’t know any of the victims of this tragedy well, we had met John and Ricky Hendrick, Randy Dorton and a couple of the others. Randy was a founding member of an MRO Bible study in the Charlotte area. The brief encounters we had with all of them were pleasant, informative and left us with an appreciation for their personalities. We can’t eulogize the people lost Sunday; we can’t comment on the causes of the crash but we can post links here to a couple of good personal columns on Sunday’s tragedy.

Boorish, pig-headed, stubborn to the point of foolishness - all things that have described Jimmy Spencer in the past. All things that held true Sunday night as Jimmy Spencer was arrested at his home on Cornelius, NC. Spencer interfered with police who were trying to serve a warrant on his son, Johnathan. He was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting a police officer. Consequently, he has lost his Nextel Cup ride in the #4 Morgan-McClure Chevy.
