Kalitta, Capps, Koretsky and Hines Qualifying Leaders at Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals

MOHNTON, Pa. - Doug Kalitta raced to the qualifying lead in Top Fuel Friday at the 20th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway.
Ron Capps, Kenny Koretsky and Andrew Hines also were qualifying leaders in their respective categories at the $1.7 million race, the 21st of 23 events in the $50 million NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.
Front Row Joe Does It Again

For the second time in a row, Joe Nemechek will start a NASCAR NEXTEL Cup race from pole position. This week, “Front Row Joe” nabbed the fastest qualifying position from rookie Kasey Kahne by .151 sec. Nemechek was the only qualifier to post a lap under 30 seconds and over 180 mph, joining Ricky Rudd who set similar times in practice Friday morning. Nemechek’s time of 29.974 sec/180.156 mph was a scant .010 second/.160 mph quicker than Rudd’s practice lap.

No Saturday Action At Suzuka

Track officials and stewards agreed Friday that all activity scheduled for Saturday would be cancelled due to an approaching typhoon. Drivers will qualify in a unique session Sunday before the race that afternoon. The announcement was made on Formula One’s official web site Friday.
ESPN2 To Air Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals Coverage on Oct. 11

GLENDORA, Calif. — NHRA and ESPN officials announced today that coverage from this weekend’s Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway in Mohnton, Pa., will air twice, including a newly added primetime telecast scheduled for Monday, Oct. 11, from 5-7 p.m. (ET) on ESPN2.

12 Penalties Result From Talladega Inspections

NASCAR released a notice yesterday that a total of twelve penalties were levied against drivers and crew chiefs for rules violations uncovered at Talladega last weekend. These are in addition to the penalty against Dale Earnhardt Jr for his slip of the tongue after winning the race.
