Robby Gordon, Others Lose Parts
February 13, 2005
Robby Gordon’s new team, with no provisional starting positions to fall back on, may be out of the Daytona 500 before qualifying even begins. NASCAR announced that Gordon’s car, and several others, had unapproved parts discovered in pre-practice inspections. Gordon’s engine had an unapproved intake manifold, leading to a scramble to obtain correct parts from engine builder Menard Racing.

LAP 20 - 10 MINUTE INTERMISSION RUNDOWN:
JIMMIE JOHNSON, NO. 48 LOWE’S CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO: “Chad Knaus and this Lowe’s team have put together another great race car. We’re out there having some fun. It’s nice to be out here without any points on the line. It’s just awesome.
Johnson Bullseyes Shootout
February 12, 2005
Huh? What? Race Over? Who won?
That might be the comments overheard after Saturday night’s Budweiser Shootout NASCAR race at Daytona. Usually a nail-biting cliffhanger of a rumble, the 2005 affair might almost as well have been a parade for all its apparent drama. Sure, there was an almost incident in which Greg Biffle nearly crashed while running second to Jimmie Johnson. That alone, had it happened, might have satisfied the blood lust of those who yearn for the old “Busch ‘Crash’” days of yore. Instead, this year, Jimmie Johnson, aided by a brilliant pit stop from his Chad Knaus-led crew, advanced from 17th on the starting grid to win the race.
Why Stop At 21?

Apparently with Max Mosley successfully dunning and berating the F1 teams to the negotiating table, Bernie Eccelstone has time to work on other things. Like expanding the schedule.
Bernie The Anvil, And Max The Hammer

Tony Goes Racing!
February 12, 2005
The IRL ’s founder and still chief “visionary” has formed his own racing team for 2005. Sound business decision, field filling measure, or just plain nepotism?
NHRA Season Opens with Issues
February 12, 2005
The NHRA season opened on Thursday to much hope and expectation as a brand new racing season could muster. Unfortunately no one told the timing devices at Pomona Raceway and they failed to uphold their end of the bargain. Qualifying was underway and the left lane clocks malfunctioned to the point that Doug Kalitta and Robert Hight were robbed of what would have been great qualifying times. With rain washing out Friday’s qualifying session. That means that both those drivers are down to two bullets in the chamber by no fault of their own.
