CONCORD, N.C. - The cultures of 16th century William Shakespeare and 21st century NASCAR NEXTEL Cup stock car racing came together Monday when members of the London-based Royal Shakespeare Company visited Lowe’s Motor Speedway.

The evolution of the IRL over the last 10 years has resulted in a very familiar landscape along pit road. Back in 1999, CART was dominated by three or four top-tier teams, followed by a few “close-but-no-cigar” operations that eventually sped away from the smaller and one-car operations. Today, the IRL looks very much the same.
Jimmie Johnson Leads Hendrick Las Vegas Domination

Jimmie Johnson, eight-time in 2004, took the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 Sunday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Closely followed by Hendrick Motorsports rookie Kyle Busch, the older Busch driver, Kurt, in a Roush Ford and a third Hendrick driver, Jeff Gordon, in fourth. Gordon was followed across the line by Kevin Harvick after Harvick was forced to start 42nd on the grid after post-qualifying inspection uncovered a fuel cell rigged to appear full even though it contained only five gallons instead of the required full load.

Rocket Ryan on Vegas Pole, Harvick’s Time Disallowed

Ryan Newman, driving the No. 12 Dodge, beat out the rest of the field in taking his first pole of the 2005 season. Newman clocked his best lap early in the session, then had to bite his nails until the final few had made their attempts. Newman’s time earned him his 28th career pole but his first at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
