Riggs Scores His First Pole

Scott Riggs scored his first-ever NASCAR NEXTEL Cup pole position at Martinsville Speedway with a lap of 19.588 sec/96.671 mph, bumping Ryan Newman out of the inside lane by a hair’s-breadth .003 second. Newman, in turn, edged fellow Dodge driver Jeremy Mayfield by .015 sec. Newman’s fellow Penske Racing South driver Rusty Wallace, owner of seven victories at Martinsville out of his 42 starts to date, was another .005 second back of Mayfield.

Harvick Wins Without Berrier

Third Time’s A Charm for Renault

Fernando Alonso won today’s Bahrain GP. Renault has now swept the first three races of the 2005 F1 season while the obvious favorite Michael Schumacher has tallied only 2 points thus far. The new F2005 which the Ferrari hoped would turn around their early season duldroms failed Schumacher on lap 12. This was the first time in 58 races that Schumacher’s Ferrari did not bring him to the finish line.
