I grew up in Indianapolis. I love(d) the Speedway and all it’s symbolism and glory. I went with my Dad, my Grandfather, my friends. I’d drag along anyone who would dare to go. I even went by myself a few times just to hear, see and feel all that the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is about.

Ryan Newman won the pole for Saturday night’s NASCAR NEXTEL Cup All-Star Challenge, thanks to the assistance of his pit crew. Qualifying for this event is unique, with a four-lap run punctuated with a pit stop. The total elapsed time, plus any penalties incurred, determines starting positions.

Mike Bliss grabbed the gold with his qualifying run for the NASCAR NEXTEL Open tonight, setting a new track record and earning the pole for the race. Bliss drove around the 1.5 mile tri-oval in a lap of 28.540 sec/189.208 mph, besting the old track record of 29.180 sec/185.058 mph by over six tenths of a second. “We weren’t that good in practice,” said Bliss. “The race track changed quite a bit, in our favor I guess. That’s the biggest key I feel, starting close to the front.”

Irony At Indy - Brack To Replace Rice

Buddy Rice got his big break with Rahal Letterman Racing filling in for the gravely injured Kenny Brack. We all know what happened next. Rice is now the reigning 500 champion, but won’t defend his title due to a practice crash last week that left him with a partially torn spinal ligament in his mid to lower neck. Guess who will take his seat in the 500 - Kenny Brack is back folks!
