DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — In a wild one under the lights at Daytona International Speedway, Butch Leitzinger drove his No. 4 The Boss Snowplow Pontiac Crawford past the No. 19 Make A Wish/Air Force Reserve/Commercial Defeasance BMW Riley of Michael McDowell on the famed Daytona Superstretch with 23 laps remaining and led the rest of the way en victory in the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series Brumos Porsche 250.
Beard’s Release a Head Scratcher

After taking a two race “vacation”?, Lee Beard has been released from Don Schumacher Racing. Beard called the shots for Whit Bazemore’s Matco Tools Dodge Funny Car but was put on hiatus after the car’s performance faltered. Two races pass that Beard was not turning the wrenches and then Don Schumacher releases a statement that Beard has been relieved of his duties. There has to be more going on behind the scenes than Beard mysteriously had forgotten to tune a Funny Car right?

The FIA World Council has found the seven offending Michelin shod teams guilty of two of the five charges lodged by Mad Max. Guilty for not bringing “suitable” tires to race, and guilty for not racing through the pit lane. Incredible!

With all the excitement of Danica, the F1 hosing of the fans at Indy, and the start of the Champ Car meat of the season, has anyone given any thought as to what the IRL engine package will be in 2006? Would you believe Honda’s racing against Hyundai’s? Me neither!
