I tuned in this afternoon to watch the U.S. Grand Prix, and much to my surprise witnessed a six car funeral procession marking the death of Grand Prix racing in the United States.
What To Say About The 2005 USGP?

Normally I (or George) would be posting race results and quip little comments about who did what in today’s USGP. However, I almost couldn’t get past writing the title to this posting. I looked for inspiration and found things like “Driver Protest Mars Grand Prix Race” and “It may be last GP here: Stoddart.” But the ones that really hit the nail on the head seem to include the words “farce” and “shame.”
Biffle Notches Fifth Win for 2005

By not pitting, Greg Biffle added another notch to the Roush Racing domination of the 2005 season by taking his eighth career and season eighth win for Ford. Biffle’s win was also team owner Jack Roush’s eighth win at Michigan. In leading five times for 63 laps, Biffle moved to within 49 points of leader Jimmie Johnson, gaining 74 points on the Chevrolet driver. Biffle’s chief competitor was Tony Stewart, who led the most laps but once again this season failed to win the race, finishing second.

Saturday was Justin Wilson’s day at PIR, as he took the pole for tomorrow’s Champ Car Grand Prix of Portland. Meanwhile, Sebastian Bourdais’ frustrating weekend continues, after Newman/Haas claimed that his best lap was possibly not counted due to a power outage during qualifying.

So there is actually a lot of road racing going on this weekend and it’s not all at Le Mans. The Grand-Am Cup raced today at Mosport International Raceway as part of the CASCAR Fathers Day 500 weekend. In case you’re not familiar with CASCAR it’s Canada’s version of NASCAR.
