Rocket Ryan Zooms to New Michigan Record

Once again, Ryan Newman, driver of the No. 12 Dodge, has a new track qualifying record to add to his resume. Saturday, Newman swept to a new Michigan lap record, beating out the 37.667 seconds, 191.149 mph lap clocked by Dale Earnhardt Jr in August, 2000. Newman’s pole is the 32nd of his career, in 131 races.

Trans Am takes on Portland

This weekend the the Trans-Am Road Racing Series, which is in it’s 40th season will be holding round 2 at Portland International Raceway. The Rose City 100 is scheduled for June 18th as part of the Champ Car weekend. The race will air on Speed Channel June 26 at 1:00 PM ET.

Mayfield, Newman Match Practice Times

Jeremy Mayfield and Ryan Newman matched lap times to the thousandth of a second in the final practice Friday for Sunday’s Batman Begins 400 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup race. Both Dodge drivers clocked a best lap of 37.481 sec / 192.097 mph on the two-mile oval with Jimmie Johnson third, .072 sec back. Johnson’s fellow Hendrick driver, Jeff Gordon, was fourth and Mark Martin, surging in his final year of full time racing, was fifth at 37.685 sec / 191.057 mph. Qualifying will be held Saturday afternoon for Sunday’s race.

A Le Mans Preview

It is 5:12 in the morning here in Hawaii and I just got off work, I guess I have no life. Also please keep that in mind if there are more than the usual amount of mistakes. So it’s that time of year again when we turn our interest overseas to one of the most famous endurance races of all, the 24 Heures Du Mans, or roughly translated, 24 Hours of Le Mans. The race is still two days away and there is still plenty of qualifying to come but I thought I would give a glimpse at the scene in France.

Pawuk’s Decision a Good One

Pro Stock driver Mark Pawuk has decided to skip the next five NHRA races in order to get his team back on track. Although this decision could be looked at as Pawuk waving the white flag, this decision is the best thing for him. Pawuk’s performance has been miserable this season and a five race hiatus might just be what the doctor ordered.
